Donations and fund-raising are suspended at this time (30 Aug 2021)
The aim of this campaign is for the community to take over ownership of St Barnabas Church & Cemetery from the Anglican Church.
In February, 2020 the Anglican Diocese Property Board gave in-principle approval for the sale of St Barnabas to the community. The impact of Covid19 slowed things down but in August 2020 this agreement has been re-confirmed and the first regulatory step has been taken with the Diocese advertising its intent to sell St Barnabas Cemetery and Church.
As well as the sale price, there will be many other costs and some significant ones have already identified to bring the church and property up to standard for the increased use we foresee a community-owned St Barnabas will enjoy. There are also the setup and operational costs once St Barnabas is ours.
So please, if you believe in and support this cause, donate or pledge now. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
Please note that identifiable donations will be returned to the donors should the sale not go through. Any remaining funds from events and other fund-raising activities will be directed to other community projects in consultation with local groups and community members.
